Al mismo tiempo, esta porci\u00f3n de la cordillera abarca una amplia variedad de glaciares, entre los que se incluyen las masas de hielo m\u00e1s grandes al norte de la Patagonia. Es el caso de la cuenca del r\u00edo Volc\u00e1n (33,82\u00b0S\/70,00\u00b0W), ubicada 40 km al este de Santiago (Figura 1). Esta cuenca se caracteriza por la coexistencia de volcanismo activo, en el Complejo Volc\u00e1nico San Jos\u00e9, junto con 195 glaciares identificados a lo largo de su extensi\u00f3n (Figura 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>En este contexto, este estudio presenta una evaluaci\u00f3n de susceptibilidad de movimientos en masa de origen glaciar en la cuenca del r\u00edo Volc\u00e1n. Se entiende por susceptibilidad la posibilidad de que ocurra, o no, una remoci\u00f3n o movimiento en masa en un \u00e1rea determinada y en funci\u00f3n de condiciones locales del terreno (tambi\u00e9n conocidas como factores condicionantes).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u00ed, se analiza la susceptibilidad de cinco tipos de movimientos en masa a partir de un an\u00e1lisis jer\u00e1rquico de procesos mediante la determinaci\u00f3n de un \u00edndice de susceptibilidad (IS). Los fen\u00f3menos abordados incluyen avalanchas de hielo, surges (o avances s\u00fabitos de glaciares), deslizamientos catastr\u00f3ficos de glaciares de baja pendiente, vaciamiento de lagos de origen glaciar (o GLOFs por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s, <em>Glacial Lake Outburst Floods<\/em>) y lahares primarios (derivados de la interacci\u00f3n glaciovolc\u00e1nica). El an\u00e1lisis se aplica a 70 glaciares, correspondientes a todos los glaciares no rocosos identificados en el \u00e1rea de estudio (Figura 1 y Figura 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nuestros resultados dan cuenta que en el \u00e1rea de estudio existen glaciares altamente susceptibles ante todos los fen\u00f3menos evaluados. En particular, 10 glaciares poseen susceptibilidad alta por avalanchas de hielo, siete ante GLOFs, tres a lahares primarios, dos a deslizamientos catastr\u00f3ficos y solo uno ante <em>surges<\/em>. Estos hallazgos son discutidos respecto a la evaluaci\u00f3n del peligro y riesgo que representan, a su vez que son comparados con estudios previamente publicados en la literatura cient\u00edfica. La propuesta metodol\u00f3gica es una primera etapa respecto a la gesti\u00f3n del riesgo de origen glaciar en la regi\u00f3n y cuenta con el potencial de ser ampliamente replicada en otras regiones andinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.andex-rhp.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Imagen-1-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Figura 1.
