Esto es particularmente evidente en la zona central de los Andes de Chile y Argentina (~30\u00b0-37\u00b0S), regi\u00f3n semi\u00e1rida donde la nieve y los glaciares constituyen componentes cruciales del sistema hidrol\u00f3gico y proveen un suministro fundamental de agua de deshielo para las actividades que all\u00ed se desarrollan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde 2010, esta regi\u00f3n andina ha experimentado una marcada y persistente disminuci\u00f3n en la acumulaci\u00f3n de nieve durante el invierno, lo que ha resultado en reducciones notables en los caudales de los r\u00edos y una p\u00e9rdida generalizada de masa glaciar. De hecho, se la considera la sequ\u00eda m\u00e1s extrema y prolongada que ha afectado a la regi\u00f3n desde comienzos del siglo XX y posiblemente en los \u00faltimos mil a\u00f1os. A\u00a0 pesar de la importancia crucial de los recursos h\u00eddricos andinos para los ecosistemas naturales y las actividades socioecon\u00f3micas, pocos estudios se han enfocado en comprender las contribuciones de la nieve y el hielo al escurrimiento superficial en r\u00edos claves como el Mendoza, principal fuente de agua para el oasis irrigado m\u00e1s extenso y densamente poblado del centro-oeste argentino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para entender mejor la <em>danza de la nieve y los glaciares<\/em>, y su impacto en la disponibilidad de agua en el\u00a0 r\u00edo Mendoza, se present\u00f3 un trabajo con el modelo num\u00e9rico HBV.IANIGLA, que incorpora espec\u00edficamente componentes separados de nieve y glaciares en simulaciones hidrol\u00f3gicas. Durante los \u00faltimos 40 a\u00f1os (1981-2019), la nieve ha sido la principal fuente de agua de deshielo para el r\u00edo Mendoza, pero los glaciares han contribuido, en promedio, con aproximadamente un 15% del caudal anual.
